Alex Silva, OMTRIX Principal Partner, President and Founder (Chair of MFX Inc. and MFX LLC)
Alex Silva has more than 25 years of experience in international finance with expertise in the areas of evaluation of financial intermediaries, financial engineering, strategic planning and corporate finance. Mr. Silva is manager of Antares Fund, a fund aiming to develop a secondary market for shares of microfinance institutions (MFIs)., He is also Executive Director of Calmeadow and representative of this Canadian NGO in the Board of Africap, a fund specialized in providing equity and long-term funding to African MFIs. Prior to establishing Omtrix, Mr. Silva worked for the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a multilateral financial institution, as head of its Central American office. He was executive director of ProFund Internacional, a regional investment fund specializing in equity investments in MFIs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Alex also sits on Habitat for Humanity’s International Board.
Al Breach, Independent, (Board of MFX Inc.)
Al Breach served as Head of Research, Strategist and Economist for UBS Russia through October 2007. He joined what was then Brunswick UBS in January 2003 as chief economist. Prior to Brunswick UBS, Al was Russia & FSU economist at Goldman Sachs from late 1998 to 2002. Al has lived in Beijing, Tokyo, New York and Zimbabwe. He graduated from Edinburgh University in Mathematics with Philosophy in 1993 top of his class. He then did an MSc in Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE), graduating in 1994.
Stephanie Cohn Rupp, Principal, Investments, Omidyar Network (Board of MFX Inc. and MFX LLC)
Stephanie came to Omidyar Network after serving as a senior investment officer at Planet Finance, where she originated loans to microfinance institutions and advised socially responsible investors. Previously, Stephanie specialized in fixed income deals at UBS Investment Bank in New York City and London. She also focused on microfinance for ACDI/VOCA, where she coordinated USAID-funded microfinance programs in Central Asia and Russia. Stephanie earned an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government where she specialized in Trade and Finance, an MS in comparative government from the London School of Economics, and a BS from the University of Bristol, England in philosophy and politics.
Eliza Erikson, Portfolio Manager, Calvert Foundation (Board of MFX Inc.)
Eliza M. Erikson manages the $170 million microfinance portfolio of the Calvert Social Investment Foundation in Bethesda, Maryland. The mission of the Calvert Foundation is to end poverty through investment in organizations creating wealth in low-income communities around the world. She has also worked with the Corporation for Enterprise Development, the US Agency for International Development, and launched a microfinance program at a community development corporation in the central highlands of Guatemala. Ms. Erikson received a B.A. in Politics from Princeton University and a Masters in Public Policy (M.P.P.) from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the I Do Foundation.
Jeffrey Golden, Visiting Professor, London School of Economics (Board of MFX Inc.)
Jeffrey Golden is a Visiting Professor in the Law Department at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He recently retired from international law firm Allen & Overy LLP, which he joined as a partner in 1994 after 15 years with the leading Wall Street practice of Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He was the founder partner of Allen & Overy’s US law practice and senior partner in the firm’s global derivatives practice and has extensive experience of a wide range of capital markets matters. He was a principal author of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) Master Agreements and has appeared as an expert witness in several high profile derivatives cases. He is Chair of the Society of English and American Lawyers (SEAL), a former Chair of the ABA ‘s Section of International Law, and Co-Chair of its Financial Engineering for Economic Development (FEED) Task Force. He studied at Duke University, the London School of Economics and Columbia University School of Law, from which he received his J.D. degree with honors in 1978.
Ruben de Haseth, Senior Investment Officer, Triodos Investment Management BV (Board of MFX LLC)
Ruben de Haseth works as a Senior Investment Officer for the investment banking arm of Triodos Bank, Triodos Investment Management, which is responsible for managing a number of internationally operating funds that invest both in developing countries and Europe. Before joining Triodos Bank in March 2007, Ruben was a Director in ABN AMRO’s structured finance group in London, focusing on international structured and project financing transactions in Russia, other FSU countries and the Middle East. He holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology. Ruben is a Dutch citizen and speaks fluent English and Spanish.
Miguel Herrera, Senior Investment Officer, ACCION International (Board of MFX LLC and Inc.)
Miguel Herrera serves as Senior Investment Officer for Frontier Investments Group (FIG), where he is responsible for making early stage equity investments in Latin American companies with disruptive business models which promote financial inclusion. Prior to joining FIG, Mr. Herrera served as Senior Investment Officer for ACCION Investments in Microfinance SPC, a private equity fund dedicated to investing in microfinance institutions. Prior to joining ACCION, Mr. Herrera was a Vice President in Citibank’s Fixed Income Capital Markets Division, providing currency and rate risk management advisory services to financial institutions and Fortune 500 multinational companies. Mr. Herrera has served on the boards of Banco Solidario in Ecuador, Mibanco in Peru, and BancoSol in Bolivia among other MFIs in ACCION Investment’s portfolio.
Todd Farrington, Regional Manager, Symbiotics Brokerage and Structuring, (Board of MFX LLC.)
Todd is responsible for the Symbiotics Latin America Investment Analysis unit, based in Mexico City. Prior to that, he was a Director with ACCION Global Investments; founding partner of MicroRate and general manager of MicroRate Latin America, at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC, and with the Inter-American Foundation in the Andean Region. Todd holds an MA in Economics and Financial Systems in a combined program from The Fletcher School and Harvard Business School; an MA in Literature from the University of Michigan; a BA in Literature and Economics from Amherst College.
Geert Rosen, Chief Financial Officer, BlueOrchard Finance S.A. (Board of MFX LLC.)
Geert Roosen joined BlueOrchard in November 2008. From 1999 to 2008 Geert Roosen held a variety of finance and consulting roles at McKinsey & Company, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Fortis and Siemens. In his last assignment Geert Roosen was head of the strategic financial planning group at Fortis SA/NV responsible for the corporate strategy, capital management and structuring. Geert Roosen holds a Master of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago (USA), and a Degree in Commercial Engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium). Dutch is his mother tongue; he masters English and French and has a good knowledge of Italian and German.
Rita Van den Abbeel, Chief Financial Officer, Incofin (Board of MFX LLC.)
Rita is in charge of the financial department at Incofin Investment Management, a Belgium-based specialized microfinance fund management company which currently manages five funds. She started at Incofin in 2002 as investment manager for Africa. She worked for 12 years in Africa (Tanzania, Congo) in agricultural and agro-processing projects. From 1998 until 2001, she managed a microcredit fund in Tanzania. She is a master in agronomics, specialized in tropical agriculture, phytotechnics and economics.Rita Van den Abbeel is fluent in English, French, Dutch and Kiswahili.
